I see that the Obama administration has made some conciliatory gestures towards China in the past couple of days: One was a remark by Mr. Obama himself in receiving the new Chinese ambassador in the Oval Office; the other a speech by the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State to the press.
I believe the recent passage of the health care bill through the U.S. Congress was a major factor in Obama's sudden change of tone towards China. Nevertheless, I am relieved to see the reduced likelihood of an immediate Sino-U.S. confrontation. Personally, this means less need for me to be involved in politics. Besides, as can be seen from Hu Jintao's latest Internet article, the Special Interest Groups in Chinese government seem to be very weary of an outsider like me anyways.
As such, I think it would be desirable to all concerned that I stay out of politics. I just have one wish: Political reform in China. Now.
